ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 epidemic has damaged developing as well as developed economies and reduced the profitability of several companies. Technological advancement plays a vital role in the company's performance in this current situation. All activities carry on virtually. In this study, the financial performance of enterprises in the South Asian banking industry will be compared before and after the COVID-19 epidemic. Furthermore, the full influence of the pandemic will take place in the long run. This study also explains the technological effect on improving performance, especially during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has an impact on people's social lives as well as the economic world. This study examined a sample of 34 banks from the South Asian region from 2016 to 2021. A Wilcox rank test was used to determine whether there was a significant difference before and after the epidemic era. The overall conclusion of this study is that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant influence on the bank's financial performance, particularly in terms of profitability. But technological advancement has a positive effect on organizational performance, ultimately increasing the financial performance of South Asian banks. And there is a big difference between pre-pandemic and post-pandemic organizational performance. The findings of this study have significant policy implications since it is clear that cooperation among governments, banks, regulatory agencies, and central banks is necessary to address the financial and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the characteristics of the nucleic acids of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) -2 and antibodies in different specimens obtained from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients;if a correlation between these parameters and the disease course was present. The throat swabs and stool samples of 39 COVID-19 patients admitted to our hospital were collected in this study. Real-time reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was undertaken on throat swabs and stool samples. Peripheral blood was taken and serum levels of immunoglobulin IgM and IgG measured. Results showed That, Throat swabs and stool samples tested positive for the nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-Z, but nucleic acid levels were reduced significantly 15 days after disease onset compared with that upon diagnosis. The Ct value of the nucleic acid test was increased significantly. Serum levels of IgM and IgG were significantly higher than those of healthy people. nucleic acid loads in throat swabs and stool samples as well as serum levels of IgM and IgG were highly correlated with the disease course (r = 0.7387,0.5696, -0.546 and 0.6117,respectively, P < 0.05). In this study nucleic acid loads in throat swabs and stool samples as well as serum levels of IgM and IgG are highly correlated with the course of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The role of the family doctor contracted service system in China's medical and health system is increasing day by day. However, with the steady increase in contracting coverage, the phenomenon of "signing up but not contracting" has become common; to improve the current situation, the personalized signing service model has been strongly advocated. To promote the smooth implementation of the personalized contracted service model with family doctor competency as its core, this study used the signal game model to analyze the market equilibrium state of the signing service model. The results of this analysis reveal the following: (1) The camouflage of the number of contracts leads to distortion of the signal effect and to market failure, that is, the cost of competency camouflage is the primary factor affecting the equilibrium of contracted services. (2) The incompleteness of contracted services leads to quantity but not quality in the contracting market, that is, the payment of personalized service packages, the value-added utility of personalized services, and service gaps are the key factors that affect the decision-making behavior of the public. With this knowledge in mind, a compensation incentive mechanism that matches the competence level of the family doctor should be established, the formulation of contracted service agreements should be improved, and the participation of family doctors and residents should be encouraged, while the promotion of personalized contracted services should be enhanced and relevant supporting measures should be improved.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Vaccination is indeed one of the interventional strategies available to combat coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This study emphasizes the relevance of citizens' acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine in assisting global recovery from the pandemic and aiding the tourism industries to return to normalcy. This study further presented the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism industry in China. Also, the study confirmed the past performance of tourism in China to the current tourism-related COVID-19 effects from a global perspective by employing Australia's outbound tourism data from 2008 to 2020 on top 6 destinations, including China, Indonesia, New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. METHODS: Jeffrey's Amazing Statistical Program (JASP) was used to analyze this study. The JASP statistical software was employed to accurately analyze the vaccines administered in China from December 15, 2020, to March 28, 2021. RESULTS: The study results demonstrate an overwhelming acceptance of vaccines in China which will positively and significantly impact the globe's travel and tourism industries. Also, the study findings indicated that industries in tourism are hopeful of regaining the past losses. Further, the study results showed an enormous decline in death and new cases. CONCLUSION: Vaccine acceptance is relevant for the eradication of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, neighborhood and individual-level acceptance of the vaccine will help reduce the challenges facing the tourism industries and the world. The researchers recommend that authorities should strictly check the vaccination certificates of visitors. Furthermore, hoteliers should put adequate measures to monitor all visitors who visit the various tourist destinations.

ABSTRACT

This research intends to increase awareness of the existence of psychological breach contracts on emotional exhaustion in the context of a prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, with the function of organizational distrust (OD) and job insecurity (JI) serving as mediating factors. We used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to look at the 437 questionnaires that private sector workers in Pakistan filled out during the COVID-19 outbreak. The findings of direct and indirect effects show that (PBC) psychological breach contract directly leads to emotional exhaustion (EH) and has a significant indirect relationship through job insecurity (JI). Moreover, psychological contract breach (PBC) directly leads to emotional exhaustion (EH) and has a significant indirect relationship through organization distrust (OD). The study shows both theoretical and practical implications, as well as areas where more research needs to be done.

ABSTRACT

The Chinese government triggered the immediate implementation of a lockdown policy in China following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to drastic decreases in air pollutant emissions. However, concentrations of PM2.5 and other pollutants increased during the COVID-19 lockdown over the Jing-Jin-Ji region compared with those averaged over 2015-2019, and two PM2.5 pollution events occurred during the lockdown. Using the ERA5 reanalysis data, we found that the Jing-Jin-Ji region during the COVID-19 lockdown was characterized by higher relative humidity, lower planetary boundary layer height, and anomalous updraft. These conditions were favorable for condensation and the secondary formation of aerosols and prevented turbulent diffusion of pollutants. Furthermore, we conducted sensitivity tests using the WRF-Chem model and found that ρ(PM2.5) increased by 20-55 µg·m-3(60%-170%) over the middle region of Jing-Jin-Ji during the COVID-19 lockdown due to changes in meteorological conditions. Furthermore, the enhanced aerosol chemistry and unfavorable diffusion conditions were identified as the key factors driving increases in PM2.5 concentrations during the lockdown. Planetary boundary layer height and relative humidity may become the important factors in forecasting PM2.5 pollution events over the Jing-Jin-Ji region under the background of emission reduction.

ABSTRACT

Photochemical pollution over the North China Plain (NCP) is attracting much concern. We usually view peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) as the second most important photochemical pollutant featuring high mixing ratios during warm seasons. Our observations at a background site in the NCP identified high PAN concentrations, even during haze events in autumn. The substantial increasing ratios of PAN, by 244 % and 178 %, over the morning hours (08:00–12:00 local time) on 20 and 25 October 2020 were 10.6 and 7.7 times larger than those on clean days. Polluted days are characterized by higher temperature, higher humidity, and anomalous southerly winds compared with clean days. Enhanced local photochemistry has been identified as being the dominant factor that controls the PAN increase in the morning at the rural site, as the time when prevailing wind turns to a southerly wind is too late to promote direct transport of PAN from the polluted urban region. By removing the effect of direct transport of PAN, we provide a quantitative assessment of net PAN chemical production rate of 0.45 ppb h-1 for the mornings of polluted days, also demonstrating the strong local photochemistry. Using observations and calculated photolysis rates, we find that acetaldehyde oxidation by hydroxyl radical (OH) is the primary pathway of peroxyacetyl radical formation at the rural site. Acetaldehyde concentrations and production rates of HOx (HOx= OH + HO2) on polluted days are 2.8 and 2 times as large as those on clean days, leading to a remarkable increase in PAN in the morning. Formaldehyde (HCHO) photolysis dominates the daytime HOx production, thus contributing to fast photochemistry of PAN. Our observational results suggest the cause of a rapid increase in PAN during haze events in autumn at a rural site of the NCP and provide evidence of important role of HCHO photolysis in secondary pollutants at lower nitrogen oxide emissions. This highlights the urgency of carrying out strict volatile organic compound controls over the NCP during the cold season and not just in summer.

Online measurements of indoor and outdoor ammonia (NH3 ) were conducted at a university building in Haidian District, Beijing, to investigate their variation characteristics, indoor-outdoor differences, influencing factors, and possible contribution of indoor NH3 to atmospheric NH3 . Indoor NH3 mixing ratios varied greatly among the rooms of the same building. Indoor NH3 mixing ratio peaked at 1.43 ppm in a toilet. Both indoor and outdoor NH3 mixing ratios exhibited higher values during summer and lower values during winter and correlated significantly with relative humidity and temperature. Moreover, their daily mean mixing ratios were significantly correlated with each other. But indoor and outdoor NH3 in cold months exhibited quite different diurnal variations. During the measurement period, indoor NH3 mixing ratios were substantially higher than those outdoors, by an average factor of 3.1 (1.0-6.6). This indicates that indoor NH3 could be a source of outdoor atmospheric NH3 . The contribution of indoor NH3 to atmospheric NH3 was estimated at 0.7 ± 0.5 Gg NH3 -N·a-1 , accounting for approximately 1.0 ± 0.7% of total emissions in Beijing and being comparable to industry, biomass combustion, and soil emissions, but lower than transportation emissions. The influence of COVID-19 control measures caused indoor and outdoor NH3 mixing ratios to decrease by 22.8% and 19.3%, respectively-attributable to decreased human activity and traffic flow.

In Beijing, measured daily mean peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) concentrations reached 4 ppb over the lockdown period (24 January to 15 February), whose averages were 2-3 times that before lockdown (1-23 January). The lockdown PAN levels also reached a high historical record based on our long-term measurements (2016-2019). Unlike ozone and PM2.5, PAN formation depends on less complex photochemistry between NOx and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), providing a novel approach to investigate the wintertime photochemistry during COVID-19. The GEOS-Chem simulations suggest a markedly enhanced photochemistry by a factor of 2 during the lockdown. Change of meteorology featuring with anomalous wind convergence under higher temperatures is the main reason for enhanced photochemical formation of PAN, while chemically nonlinear feedbacks also play a role. Our results suggest implementing targeted VOC emission controls in the context of increasing photochemical pollution over this complex polluted region.

ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurial orientation has recently been touted as a tool for solving enterprise failures in emerged and emerging economies especially during and after an epidemic. This study aims at understanding the impact of entrepreneurial orientation on enterprise performance in the Ghanaian food processing industry by assessing the mediating effects of innovation types and intellectual property. Data were collected from 702 owners/managers in the food processing industry via survey questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesis via the Smart PLS software. The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation, innovation types, and intellectual property positively and significantly influenced enterprise performance. Furthermore, the results indicated that the mediation effects of innovation types and intellectual property were full and partial, respectively. Useful policy implications are further proposed and discussed based on the study results.
